Mumuye Cimier Mask / Wurkun / Bikwin (N° 16907)

Vertical masks of this nature were used by neighbouring groups, Wurkun/Bikwin , Mumuye, and Jukun, established in the benoué average. The wearer of the mask was likely holding him in balance on his head, so as to see between the two planks. They were associated with agrarian ceremonies to promote harvesting, health, and human fertility.
Sa structure consists of two planks, one of which is heavily damaged, surmounted by a disc surrounded by a ring from which emerges a head with anthropo-zoomorphic features. The face is covered with a crest evoking the group's hairstyles, adorned with a metal ring. Elements are raised with red ochre, and parallel patterns are inscribed on the cheeks. Patine mate.
