Lobi stool (N° 28022) Deposit sale

French collection of African art Among the elements of African furniture of daily use passed down from father to son, an old lobi seat from Burkina Faso with three legs, traditionally carved in wood sii(Diospyros mespiliformis). Its structure would be inspired by the agricultural hoe. This type of sacred stool, accompanying the movements of its owner, marked the social rank of its owner and his ritual obligations, and was not suitable under any circumstances.
The populations of the same cultural region, grouped under the name "lobi", form a fifth of the inhabitants of Burkina Faso. Few in number in Ghana, they have also established themselves in the north of Ivory Coast. It was at the end of the 18th century that the Lobi, coming from North Ghana, established themselves among the indigenous Thuna and Puguli, the Dagara, the Dian, the Gan and the Birifor.
Patina of use, dark brown, minor abrasions and cracks.
