Dan Mask (N° 27240)

The African Dan mask, actor of the social order, here offers a braided headdress contouring a concave face decorated with a small beard. Satin black patina.
Height on base: 33 cm.
The masks equipped with round orbits (called gunyeya or gunye ge), facilitating vision, are part of all the masks of the Dan northern regions and are used for racing events during the dry season. The zapkei ge go ge, a royal mask reserved for exceptional events. The so-called "disangled" mockingly, with narrowed eyes, embodying an ideal of beauty, plays an active role between the initiation camp and the village.
