Benin horse rider (N° 1398)
Numerous heads and statues out of bronze made by Benin craftmen were kept for personal use of the nobility., and , most of the time put
on altars consecrated by each new Oba. These rectangular-shaped altars were surmounted by heads,
statues, carved ivory tusks, bells and staffs. They were being used to recall a Oba and to get in touch with his spirit.
