Baule figure (N° 18877)

Originally in African art, the settlers were statuettes dyed with vegetable dyes. They generally represent whites as perceived by the indigenous Baule people. However here it is the influence of Westerners on the way of dressing that is manifested in the statuary. With the contact of pious images, Western religions and school, a tendency to realism will manifest itself. This type of sculpture also embodied the "ideal spouse" in a ritual context.
The polychromy has also been well preserved.
