Kachina Statuette (N° 28132)

Colorful witnesses to the traditions of Arizona's Hopi Indian peoples, Katsinam (sing. Kachina) carvings are expressed in traditional dances that accompany annual rain festivals. For the Native American Pueblo group (Hopi, Zuni, Tewa Village, Acoma Pueblo and Laguna Pueblo), traditional Katsinam dolls are educational tools offered to children at the end of ritual celebrations. These Hopi-inspired statuettes, embodying a wide variety of spirits, represent the katsinam dancers and the colors are associated with the cardinal points. Matt polychrome patina, abrasions .
