Statuette Attié Nkpasopi (N° 17648)

This sculpture of African art Akan was a divine medium for the medium. The figure with a high conical chest is depicted sitting on a dignitary seat. Irregular patina, speckled, revealing scattered residues of kaolin.
The lagoon populations of eastern Côte d'Ivoire include a dozen groups: the Attié, or Akyé, the Abouré, the Ebrié, the Gwa, the Ehotyilé, the Krobou, etc. Their sculptures offer many similarities. These small kingdoms had the first trading establishments offering gold, ivory, slaves and pepper to the West.Among the group of Akan, the Attié, Akye-Fo, the holders of the blade, are divided between those of the North and those of the South. The Attié, palm oil producers, also harvest yam, maize and bananas. Their traditional and festive ceremonies are an opportunity to display a wide variety of objects, some of them gold or covered in gold. (source: Treasures of Ivory Coast, F.Neyt)
