Usual object of the mumuye type consisting of a tablet with a figurative motif, forming a support for divination. The head offers traditional mumuye criteria: summary features framed by large protruding ears. The posterior face is eroded. br />The plate is connected by a raffia cord to an anthropomorphic stylus. Height on base: 47 cm. Desication cracks. The Mumuye are a little-known ethnic group, they are estimated at around 400,000 individuals. Current knowledge tends to affirm that these statues had a very important social role within the community and were used in communication with the dead and the spirits, divination, for curative purposes etc. Mumuye art plays a very great role in the social cohesion of the ethnic group. This statue was kept in the box of young initiates but also made available to sorcerers, master of rain and others. The Mumuye obey the master of rain who is their highest religious authority.
