African statue characteristic of the Hungaan, head sculpture intended for the clan, which was kept with the skulls in the ancestral sanctuary. Protective figurines, connected to each other, surround the character's bust. Now mixed with the Mbala, the Hungaan from the Kwanza region in neighboring Angola also claim to be linked to the Teke with whom they share certain traits. In the Kwango region, it is the Hungaan who have the largest anthropomorphic statues, coated with reddish pigments of tukula and white clay and recognizable by their high tri-lobed hairstyle and the gesture of the hands joining the chin. Matte patina, erosions. Ref. : “100 people of Zaire and their Sculpture” M.L. Félix; “Unparalleled art, marvelous objects from the Royal Museum for Central Africa” Ed. Julien Volper.
