African art - Douala:

The Douala people live at the mouth of the Wuri River in Cameroon. Sculptors, their zoomorphic masks are the most famous. They were used during the rites of the Ekongolo society. Sublimated in bright colours, these masks represent mostly animals.

Sculpted by sculptors from Douala in the Bay of Cameroon, this type of zoomorphic mask was produced for the initiates of the ekongolo society, still active, to honor the ancestors during ritual ceremonies, and were worn like a helmet.
