Lomane Mask (N° 24580)

Plastic perfection of African art Yohouré
Deploying as a crest, a bird figure surmounts the African mask Yohouré horns. A collar chiselled with diamonds adorns the contours of the face. Satin black patina.
The Yaouré are a sub-group of the Akan people present in Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana. The Yaouré , or Yauré primitive art masks are divided into two groups that are difficult to distinguish, the I , sometimes with the addition of colored pigments, and the lo , generally with a dark patina, which occur during funeral ceremonies or any other rite in order to win the favor of the "Yu" spirits.
This copy named Anoman, Lomane, (bird) is part of the fourth of the seven I masks that originally danced around the deceased and bent down to touch them for purifying purposes. He also appears at present during rejoicings.
