Luba comb (N° 22211)

African art usual.
In African art, any everyday object can be transformed into a masterpiece while retaining its usefulness.
The major role played by women in the political life of the kingdom is illustrated by the recurrence of the female motif in Luba art. This kingdom, which stood out for its prestige and quality, also influenced neighboring groups. An ancestor figure forms the sculpted motif of this comb with six teeth.
The effigy is shown kneeling with a straight back, leaning on the ring making up the handle.

Dark brown satin patina. Discreet shine on one tooth.

Height on base: 26 cm.
